How often should you test a sump pump?

Every month.

Only some homes need this one. It is optional on the checklist and starts switched off in the tracker.

How to do it

Pour a bucket of water into the pit and check the pump starts, empties it and shuts off.

Why it matters

You find out a sump pump has failed during the storm that needed it.
